I’ve always liked this place a lot but it seems like the coronavirus is really negatively affected its charm. I walked in the other day and there wasn’t even anyone there to help me out. Not sure who they have working there but they don’t seem exactly helpful or excited to be there. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t seem like the workers are from Italy so they don’t quite get the charm of the place. I think the spaghetti in the restaurant is overpriced too; you get a plate of old fashion spaghetti with marinara and it costs you close to 15 bucks (it’s nostalgic but not exactly great spaghetti). Might as well go to one of the fancier places nearby and get a real plate of Italian pasta for the same price...

We did like the atmosphere of it, seems you're in an authentic Italian trattoria, the smell of it, the bread, garlic, wine and parmesan cheese is everywhere without being annoying, recommended
We always have to eat at Filippi's when we're in San Diego. Best Italian food in Little Italy. Delicious food, great service and beautiful setting in Little Italy, downtown San Diego. Must try the pizza!!
Great location right in the heart of Little Italy. They have, or at least had in the past, a back room adjacent to the parking lot that you could reserve for large gatherings; we rented it for my wife's baby shower many years ago. I was there to pickup a carry-out order the day after Governor Newsom lifted the stay at home order a couple of weeks ago; shocked as can be to see how packed India street was. I will admit that I was a bit worried about social distancing knowing how narrow the hallway past butcher shop leading up to the hostess counter is, but luckily I was the only one there at the time. Every employee was doing their part by wearing face coverings. The food and service have always been excellent. Favorite menu items are the lasagna with marinara sauce, pepperoni pizza and the meatball sandwich. I would give it 5 stars but parking is hard to come by making it a bit of a pain point.
Looking for a quick bite in Little Italy, Filippi's was exactly what I needed! I got the chicken parm sandwich and it was delicious. As a person originally from the northeast, I have high expectations for italian food, but this place was great! Pro tip: get the mushrooms on the chicken parm sandwich!
