We cannot tell the story well enough to convey what a good experience we had here. Took a cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking which is right across the street. Figured we would try it our 3rd day in the area. The experience and flavor did not disappoint at all. There was a homeless man with his cart full of belongings and some obvious mental illness standing out front only arrived. We invited him inside to buy a sandwich, then we found out that he had already ordered and paid for a sandwich himself. Listen to what I am saying. This homeless man, with very little resources available to him, chooses to spend his precious money on food here. And he likes it so much, that he will ask for more. That indicated to me the food was going to be good. Then I was embarrassed to not notice the giant cash only sign and tried to pay with credit card. They couldn't take it, and all I had was the 20 bill. The food was already being made, and I mentioned finding an ATM to pay the difference. The staff took the 20 for our 53 bill and said they didn't want to get in the way of the good karma wheel. While I waited for the food, I wandered around and found a little ATM machine in the corner. All they had to do with tell me was there, but they wanted to promote good karma. The sandwiches were wonderful. We had both a catfish and a shrimp po'boy with a side of sweet potato waffle fries, and some boudin balls. Everything had a really great light breading, good flavoring, a great dipping sauce for the balls, and the bread was simply perfect. Makes a mess due to the crust crumble, but we think it's completely worth it. I am sure will eat somewhere else as well, but each time we come back, this will be a stop.

Had the Soft Shell Crab Po Boy it was a little taste less. Nothing special and nothing to write home about. Service people were nice and polite.
The best Po-boys in New Orleans hands down! The roast beef is delicious & flavorful. And you can never go wrong with shrimp. A must try whenever you're in NOLA. The owner Lori Beth is very sweet and down to earth. She makes you feel right at home. Can't wait to go back!
Delicious food. Biggest roast beef po boy I've had since being here!!
First time to Johnny’s. This is our new must stop while in town. The Shrimp Po Boy was awesome and the service was great.
