Loved my 3 years there while Stationed at Torii in the Army. Loved Okinawa, loved Japan and the Japanese people.
Loved it there. Was stationed there from 80-85. I didn't want to leave
'85-'86; best assignment of my career. I didn't know how good I had it until I rotated to the "real Army."
Love going to the beach here. The base has a waterslide, pool, small shoppette, place to get gas. If your military and live in Yomitan it's nice being able to be able to pop on base and enjoy the amenities.

ゲート前に２つの鳥居が立つ米陸軍基地。通信傍受・分析部隊とグリーンベレーが駐留しているという。（wiki） 「象の檻」と呼ばれる円筒形の巨大アンテナがある施設として有名だったが、衛星通信時代になって既に撤去されている。基地内に広い民間畑地があり、米軍専用のビーチがある。沖縄戦で米軍が本島分断を狙って上陸した読谷西岸ビーチのひとつ。
