Adventure Queen

This Tennessee State Park is amazing because of its natural beauty and history. The Old Stone Fort Loop Trail showcases all of the beautiful waterfalls the park has to offer. It is definitely worthy of a day trip!

Magnificent waterfalls! You won't regret hiking along the beautiful river. You have the option of taking an easy stroll along the ridge or taking the more adventurous bottom trail along the river's edge. Perfect way to spend the day outdoors.

We had a great time here! We arrived around 2:30pm and had to park down at the picnic/playground area because the parking lot near the museum/ visitor center was full. There is a little trail the connects the two parking lots, and it added less than half a mile to the total trip. It was slightly uphill, but not bad at all. The museum and store has restrooms and a film about the park. It also has a couple rooms with exhibits about the history of the people who built the \fort.\ The main trail loop was very well maintained. I think we and several other visitors went the wrong direction on the trail based on the way the informational placards were facing, but that didn't cause too many issues. The waterfalls were all flowing heavily and were gorgeous! There are some steep drop offs, so keep that in mind if you have little ones. We didn't do any of the extra trails, and my Apple Watch says I walked almost exactly 2 miles, including the trek back to our car at the picnic area. It was mostly flat trails with some muddy patches that were easily avoided. We camped one night at the campground. It being the end of January, most of the sites were unoccupied. We were the only tent campers I saw. The bathrooms were very well maintained. The rangers were very friendly and knowledgeable. They helped us get the firewood to our campsite, which I thought was really cool of them. Not sure I would visit again soon just because I feel like I've seen everything at the park, but it is definitely a lovely little day trip or even a good get away for a night of camping.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I think in my head I had way high expectations because of driving 2.5 hours BUT the waterfalls weren't what I thought they were going to be. Regardless, it was amazingly beautiful and we got to play in the water and enjoy the beauty of nature! I took my 12 year old and he had a blast so it was totally worth the drive. Would I drive 2.5 hours to see this again...no...but I am thankful I went at least once.
