Great Hospital! Excellent Medical Staff! The only thing is that Politicians don't even give funds or make policies to Paint the Wall's of the Hospital and it's Infra-structure that looks so outdated of this great place making it's services decrease in time! The Management of the Hospital is not being done accordingly so the services get worst but the doctors are very good. The food is terrible is not made in accordance with each patient disease and adjusted to it's recovery for example someone that breaks a bone needs more calcium food or someone has an infection a specific food and that doesn't need a big funds to cook, the hospital should have top chef's food. The Hospital needs a qualified technical and management team to adjust services to it's great doctors and nurses.

Unbiased review: This is really big hospital and your experience might be affected by different factors. You cannot take others experience by much. For me, I needed to wait for 4 hours. I went in weekend. The staff is polite despite the pressure, they speak English enough to help and I give them all of my respect!

I don't even know what to say. You literally have to lose an arm to get medical help. If you're from a different country they'll let anyone else who's Portuguese get medical help before you do. Even if you came 3 hours earlier. Its disgusting how they treat sick people, they let the beds stand in the corner of the waiting rooms where everyone can look at them struggling. Maybe I'm privileged because I'm used to German health care but this can't be. Especially in an ER where you should get immediate help.

The service is terrible, and this is just juggling with people's health. 4 days into being committed, I still don't know what's going on with a patient, and no one can seem to persuade the doctor to speak with the family, and no one seems to know anything about his state. Then there are looks and stares and a general feeling that you're nagging the staff for daring to ask what's going on. Forget public hospitals in Portugal, this one in particular. Go for a private one - they're not perfect but they're not this bad either. I'll surely be voting for any party that wants full privatization of the SNS from now on.

We were on a trip to Portugal and really needed to see a doctor fast cause I was in pain. We arrived by emergency and had to wait MORE THAN 4 HOURS, i don't know how they interpretate \EMERGENCY\ but if i had known it, i would have asked for a consultation, as it would have been faster. It was not only for us, the people around us had to wait as long or even longer. It was horrible to see. Also the hygiene was not as it should be in a hospital, people could walk anywhere, no closing doors, chaotic systems .. this is not what hospital should must be like. Unbelieveable.

I ended up in the ER because of a chronic allergic reaction in my eyes, and I cannot say enough good things about the staff of Santa Maria's ER. I can honestly say the visit was actually enjoyable, not something you'd ever think you'd say about going to an ER. Everyone I met from check-in to check-out was kind and compassionate. I was in excellent hands the entire time and was in and out in under an hour. It was incredible. I have been singing the praises of this hospital ever since. I wish the staff at the hospital in my home city treated patients the way the people of Santa Maria do. If you need medical help in Lisbon, this is the place to go!
