Awful, awful department! When are Councils and Civil Servants going to learn that they cannot squander taxpayers money, reduce services (due to budget cuts!) yet keep increasing Counxil Taxes!? The reason the Government has to keep implementing budget cuts is because the Council are one of the worst offenders for misusing public money!! If they were a business they would be accountable for every penny they spent but as it's only public money then apparently it doesn't matter. When Local Councils stop having their three hour meetings everyday with sandwiches and cakes maybe they'll save OUR money and actually get some work done! Every single penny of public money should be accounted for and council spending published on their website (and not hide their spending under obscure accounting headings!!). It should be a real-time live feed online. Why aren't Council Tax departments being set targets and forced to streamline their processes and spending, and more importantly being fined for not doing this? If you are a Civil Servant you have to follow a code of conduct, and that is to utilise and spend public money effectively! Now get on and do your jobs properly...businesses in the private sector wouldn't stand for this apathy!!

Absolutely awful, what you are dealing with here is a council who think they can do whatever they like because they are the local authority and therefore they are the law WRONG! You still dont have the right to make people pay money they don't actually owe you or repeatedly threaten them with legal action because they haven't payed said money. Often it is actually an error that has been made on their side but hey why admit fault for it when you can blame someone else for it and put them through undue stress and anxiety. EDIT- I have just become aware of how many views my previous review has recived I would like to add to this that I left the area shotly afterwards (different catchment) and was still being bomarded with harssasing and threating letters at my new adress, some of which they later admitted where sent in error. Had this continued I would have been taking Forest Heath to court under the 1997 Harrasment act. Despite the fact they knew what they had done was in error they still never apologised and continued to treat me like I was a piece of dirt. I would urge anyone else whos had problems to stand up for themselves as you do have the right to defend yourself against this sort of harrasment and take legal advice/action if necissary.
