My mother, who is 82 years old, gets her army pension in an account at the Astley Hall, Rajpur Road, Dehradun branch . She has shifted to Meerut a year ago as she was finding it difficult to live alone now. She opened another Savings Account here at Meerut in Union Bank of India in her name. Every month, she transfers her pension vide cheque of CBI deposited into UBI Account. This month too, she deposited a Cheque dated 02.05.18 for Rs1,00,000 into her UBI Account. When the amount was not credited into her account till 06.05.18, we enquired the reason from the UBI branch here. The said cheque had been returned on account of overwriting. There was NO OVERWRITING on the cheque. Her handwriting is a little shaky on account of her age , and that should be taken into consideration by the bank. This kind of harassment is condemnable. It is not physically possible for her to travel 200 km for every such problem. Please do be careful with the senior citizen pension accounts in future. Their monthly expenses depend on the pension. A photo of the cheque that was returned by your branch can be sent to you for verifying that your claim of overwriting is unjustified.
