In response to the owner of Ripplevale School who rejects reviews by former boarders at the school, well,i have news for you,i too went to this school from the age of 11 to 16 & can confirm what other posters have written, the staff were indeed brutal & at times sadistic in their punishments of children,in particular Nigel Davis who would take a run-up when dishing out the slipper, & stick,i am in my mid fifties now, undergone lots of medical surgery, skin cancer, lost most of my teeth to abscess, the pain from all of that pales into insignificance compared to the excruciating pain inflicted on me by that sadistic, vile bstard,my crime, caught smoking ,Geoff Russel was an out of control bully, who would beat kids up on a regular basis & the other poster that stated that Mr MCcarthy was a control freak,i can confirm that he was & threatened to kill me,after i ran away on a school trip when he & other staff got drunk & were physically abusing the kids on the school trip/coach,my Mother had to intervene to save me from a certain beating from him,i also witnessed him flooring anothing pupil for disobeying him with one punch & then there was Mr Carpenter who pinned me against a wall by my throat,to the point of unconciosness, when i lashed out at him to free myself,i was then dragged off by the hair & collar to the showers where i was kicked & punched until i was writhing on the floor in agony, all of this by staff & teachers that were supposed to help & protect us & these accounts are just the tip of the iceberg of what went on at this place.Of course there was good staff there, the Beers were good as was Mr Padden. In conclusion i would state that as a result of what went on in this place has scarred me for life & would like to see the above mentioned staff imprisoned for the assaults they inflicted on us.

I boarded at this school, from the age of 11-15, looking back, I hated that school, bars on some of the windows, it was too strict, one of my most memorable moments, was standing out on the front forecourt for hours with all the other kids in the freezing cold late at night, because someone had dropped a toilet roll down the toilet, but the kid admitted it after 3-4 hours standing out there, then he got the cane or the slipper. The staff loved to give out the slipper, then have a laugh about it. The other memorable moment, was when we had a maths lesson, and the maths teacher threw the black board rubber at me, cutting my eye. The only good thing that came out of that school, was being the fasted cross country kid out of the school. which came in handy for me to run away. The only teacher with a big heart was Mr Dorkins. The headmaster Mr Mcarthy was a complete control freak, and is very lucky he didn't go to prison.
I went to this school from the age of ten
