We went for their halloween event, a trail to find around the grounds, it was great although couldn't find clue number 4. I was surprised how well the castle is preserved, especially compared to other castles, vivid restrictions of a one way system was in place, but we definitely felt like we saw the entire castle, inside and out. Art was still painted onto ceilings and walls, the fireplaces were lovely and ornate. The rooms were sign posted so you knew what the rooms were. We stepped out onto the walls and could see for miles, absolutely stunning views. I would really recommend it

Interesting and fascinating castle. Beautiful build and English heritage. Scenic views. Great playground. Well maintained and looked after. Best to visit on a sunny day. Car park free.
Amazing ! Had a great visit here with the family. Fascinating place, full of history and antiquity. Wonderfully preserved and presented by English Heritage, in whose care the property rests. Wonderful views of the surrounding countryside are available from the elegant castle walls and the tranquil setting in which the property sits only added to my sheer sense of wonder and joy at being there.
Extensive ruins, with plenty of areas to explore. The views of the Derbyshire countryside are stunning. The little castle is complete with stunningly decorated interiors. The views from the picnic area are great with the castle in the distance and a children's play area.
Some good examples of history. Outstanding views. It would be nice if something more could be done with the grounds, however, they are really well kept.
