The Münster turned 1000 in April 2019! This beautiful church defines Basel’s skyline. When you walk around the Münster there is a overlook of Basel. From there, you can enjoy the view or walk down and catch a ferry over the Rhein into Klein Basel.

Fantastic, not many churches allow you to climb up the bell tower and walk around outside up on the roof. Also very beautiful inside with fascinating thousand year old sarcophagus in view
Attractive cathedral with some interesting outer wings. I enjoyed inner courts with green area and some sculptures. Plus there is an inviting terrace behind cathedral with great views of the river Rhine.
Muenster was very majestic. And there are great viewing areas.
For my the No.1 sight in Basel. The famous Basler Münster. Sitting on the hill in the old town, overlooking the whole city. Also nice to spot it from the \Mittlere Brücke\ for some good pics. It's been here for about 1000 years (with some changes of course). Originally a Catholic cathedral and today a Reformed Protestant church built in Romanesque and Gothic styles. It's quite a sight and it's nice to just be/sit here on this square and to look at it. But be sure to go inside and also out back, where a small park with nice views is waiting for you.
A very important landmark in Basel with rich European religious, social and political history. The external and internal architecture are amazing. The stained glass windows are spectacular in colour and details. The reverent atmosphere, the tall ceilings and many details speak volumes of a time now gone in religious devotion. The view of the City of Basel and the Rhein from the highest point of the tower, which can be reached climbing three sets of stairs, is absolutely fantastic. The Basel Cathedral is definitely a must when visiting Basel.
This is a nice cathedral. It's definitely more impressive from the outside. Highlights include the stain glass windows and the choir loft, which you can walk through. I didn't climb the towers, but you can, in groups of two or more. The cost for this is 5 francs. It doesn't cost anything to go inside. the cathedral itself.
The cathedral is being renovated. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to enter it due to late arrival at 19.00. It looks great from outside and lots of history around conversion from catholic to a reformed church century ago. Worth visiting when in Basel.
