Beautiful place for a walk. My husband and I went for a nice 7km walk around the grounds, it was extremely muddy but fine as long as you have walking boots on. The toilets are currently open, and so is the cafe for takeaway drinks. It’s great to still be able to visit National Trust sites, and feels totally safe doing so like this.

This property has only relatively recently come into the National Trust portfolio and they took it over after the previous trust responsible for its upkeep shut the doors in 2017. Whilst the stately home is occupied by the Northern College of Music meaning you cannot go in, you can view it from the outside and walk the acres of parkland and tended gardens. There are follies on the grounds including two temples and a ruined castle. Overall, this is a lovely place to come for a walk and a visit.
Great walk through the gardens with our dog. Takeaway café serving good snacks and hot drinks. Lots of fresh air!
Not everything open on my visit and still by pre-book times only but nevertheless made for an enjoyable afternoon. Well signposted on major roads nearby and they provide early there\ signs on the driveway just so you know you've not gone wrong. Sprawling estate, gardens and deer park. Follies include a wonderful castle that provides a great area for a family picnic. Visited towards the end of summer so some of the gardens had probably passed their best but still plenty of colour. One for a long sunny day
Nice walls, good children's play area, deer in the walking fields. Would recommend for 1/2 day activity.
